CHANGING SEASONS
==================
My favorite time of
the year has arrived! Officially, autumn doesn't begin until September
the 23, but it already feels
like it's here. The color of leaves are starting to turn and
though the days may still be warm, evenings are much more cooler.
Just
a whole galore of brilliant, beautiful and exuberant colors that paints our landscape this time of the
year. It just takes my breath away. For me, autumn always signifies a
time when things start to wind down. We'll have Halloween
soon enough in October, and Thanksgiving
in November. I can just smell the pumpkin pie already!
Getting ready for the changing season is always exciting.
Our featured
tearoom for this issue is Ivy's At The Shoppes On
Grand, located in Ames, IA. Please read all about the tearoom below. Also,
a new tearoom has arrived in West Des Moines. Teacups and
Tiaras is located in the historic Valley Junction. We're
also excited about our message/discussion board, Tea-Vine®
chat, that is coming soon to our website.
There are lots to look forward too.
Wishing
everyone a great and peaceful season ahead!
Warm wishes,
Annette

FEATURED TEAROOM
=================
IVY'S AT THE SHOPPES
ON GRAND
Listed in 2001 as the best tearoom in Story County, Ivy 's
at the Shoppes on Grand (left) is Ames delightful little
secret! Tucked between 6th and Grand in Ames, IA, Ivy's
wasn't difficult to find. The tearoom sits on the main level
with the remainder being the gift shop, which covers two
entire floors of this 1860s building. When I arrived at the
tearoom, a bridal shower party was just being
seated, filling up almost half of the tearoom. I'm told that
Ivy's can actually seat up to 34 people.
The pleasant aroma of
fresh brewed coffee wafting through the air gave a real
homey feel to this tearoom. And the splendid array of gifts
lining the walls were incredible. Julie Craig, owner of Ivy's, started out her business in
1985, primarily as a gift shop. In fact the building used to
house different specialty shops, leased to individual
owners. She wanted some continuity and flow when people came
into the stop. So, with that in mind, she began her goal of
slowly acquiring and expanding her business into what it is today.
And it shows in this tearoom and gift shop. Exploring the
gift shop itself is a treat in of itself. Today, her daughter, Jenny Ryan,
runs the busy tearoom while Julie dedicates herself to her
gift shop.

The
tearoom (left) serves lunch Monday through Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 2
p.m., with the gift shop open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Their
regular entree starts from $6.95, and they do have special daily
entrees that's not on their regular menu. So when calling,
ask about their special entree for the day. I suggest you try their
famous
their chicken salad and/or their large gourmet muffin.
Ivy's at the Shoppes on Grand carries an assortment of
unique gift items, including
Isabel Bloom sculptures, Yankee products, with all the
scrumptious scents you can possibly imagine, dolls, a line
of cards, prints, books by Iowa artist Brian Andreas of
Decorah, their very own cookbook and much, much more. Twice a year, in the Spring and Fall,
Ivy's holds a Customer Appreciation weekend event, on Friday and Saturday.
Merchandise are discounted up to twenty percent. They also
have Pumpkin Day, usually a week before and including
Halloween, where the staff gets all dressed up for the
event. Also, their annual Holiday Open House from noon to 5
p.m. is always on the Sunday before Thanksgiving. Pictured
from right to left is daughter, Jenny, Shannon and Julie.
Perhaps, this year you'd like to stop in for the events
coming up this Fall, at Ivy's
At The Shoppes On Grand, 517 Grand Avenue, Ames, IA 50010. Tel
515.233.6010. For more information on the tearoom
and gift shop hours, please check our website at

One Nation: America Remembers September 11, 2001
Trasan®
Moisture, like the microfiber cloths,
comes from Sweden and really works like magic. It
loves to make dry skin disappear. While it's new to the
United States, it has a colorful history abroad stretching
all the way back to the 19th Century! Give your hands the break they deserve.
Read more about it here.
Don't just take my word for it. Here's a testimonial
regarding the Moisture!
Lorna H. from W
Jordan, UT wrote, "I wanted to
tell you about the Trasan Lotion. I had a rash on my leg for
a year and had been to the doctor on several occasions and
had tried two different prescription creams to get rid of
it. Nothing worked. I ordered the Trasan® Moisture
cream and started using it and within a few days my rash had
gone away."

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
=================
I'm sure that most of you have read or
come across this one before, but here it is just the same.
Ten Rules for A Good Life by Thomas Jefferson
- Never put
off till tomorrow what you can do today.
- Never
trouble another for what you can do yourself.
- Never
spend your money before you have it.
- Never buy
what you do not want because it is cheap; it will never
be dear to you.
- Pride
costs us more than hunger, thirst, and cold.
- Never
repent of having eaten too little.
- Nothing is
troublesome that we do willingly.
- Don't let
the evils which have never happened cost you pain.
- Always
take things by their smooth handle.
- When
angry, count to ten before you speak; if very angry,
count to one hundred.
