BEING THANKFUL
============

I am certainly one of those people that is guilty of already being carried away with the pre-holiday madness that is fast approaching us. With so much going on, I was literally being swept off my feet with a long list of things to do! When I was finally able to catch my breath, I realized that I am late in sending out this newsletter. So, here it is with my apologies.

Please note that this will be last newsletter that will be sent out for this year. We will begin afresh in 2003. We may, however, still send out updates, if necessary, but will not be featuring any tearoom until the new year.

Thanksgiving is always the perfect time to reflect upon the events that has transpired over the year. For myself, I am very thankful indeed for the many blessings and opportunities that have presented itself to me these past few months. I also know that there are those who are less fortunate than myself. So, just as much as we like to receive, it is just as important to give back as well. So, indulge a little and give a little more generously. I am sure however little the contribution may be, these wonderful charities and organizations deeply appreciates it.

So, have a very Happy Thanksgiving and Christmas, everyone. Stay safe and we'll see you in the New Year of 2003!

Warm wishes,
Annette

SUGAR PLUM 2000 TEA ROOM & GIFTS

Shirley Jacques loves the gift business. She also loves to cook as well as decorate. That's how she started with her tearoom in Ogden. It began with just two to three tables. As time went by, the number of tables grew as well as more entrees were being added, and thus the tearoom continued to grow to what it is today.

Sugar Plum 2000 tearoom is located in Ogden, about an hour and a half northeastTeapots Display of Des Moines and approximately 8-10 miles west from Boone. Tucked in a strip of shops on Walnut Street, you wouldn't have known that a tearoom existed here, if it were not for the array of teapots displayed in the window (pictured right).

The tearoom now occupies the main level of this century old building, which was built in the 1880s. It once housed a dental office on the upper floors and a dress shop below. Today, the owners maintain their residence on the second floor. As you enter the tearoom, you cannot help but notice how charming the tearoom is Ceiling Tapestrydecorated. For example, looking at the ceiling (pictured left), Shirley hung a tapestry over the main tearoom area. Indeed, the tearoom and gift shop was decorated by Shirley herself. The tearoom's gift shop carries an assortment of specialty gifts. These selection includes china teapots from England, afghans, scented candles, ornaments, potpourri, porcelain dolls and much, much more.

Meals are also prepared and served by Shirley. When it does get busy, she has someone helping her serve the meals. Note that the tearoom is able to seat up to 50 people. Three to four entrees are served daily, with prices starting from $4.95, in addition to their everyday chicken salad or tuna salad croissants. Soups and salads are also available, with a selection of desserts as well as beverages. The cost for desserts varies from $2.95 to $3.25 and a most popular dessert is Shirley's sinful brownie!

Sugar Plum 2000 tearoom now also offer customers hot Chai as a beverage. This is a beverage originating from India. It is generally made up of rich black tea, heavy milk, a combination of spices and a sweetener. It can be served either hot or cold, depending on how it was made. In the past couple years, chai has grown in popularity in the US. It also comes prepackaged where you can actually have it served cold with milk. She has various different flavors including chocolate, raspberry, vanilla and her favorite is spiced chai.

Upcoming events at the tearoom is the Christmas Afternoon Tea, which will be served on December 13, 2002 at 2:30 pm. The selection will include cucumber sandwiches, scone and preserves, a choice of desserts and beverage. Please call ahead for your reservations. Cost for this starts from $6.95.

Perhaps, you would like to stop in for the above event coming up, or just visit the tearoom for lunch and/or tea. The Sugar Plum 2000 Tea Room & Gifts is located at 321 West Walnut, Ogden, IA 50212. Tel 515.275.3153. I am sure that Shirley will be delighted! For more information on the tearoom and gift shop hours, please check our website at www.tearoomsonline.com.
